A company turning plastic collected from Japanese coastlines into commercial textiles is now close to filling its equity crowdfunding round.

Ocean Class (株式会社オーシャンクラス) has received ¥27.9 million in investment applications through FUNDINNO, against an original target of ¥6 million. That puts the campaign at 465% of target and only ¥2.1 million below its ¥30 million cap as of August 11.

The campaign was initially due to close on August 4, but Ocean Class extended the application period to August 18, 2026. FUNDINNO notes that the issuer may extend it again.

What Ocean Class actually sells

Ocean Class was established in Kawasaki in 2024 by Yotaro Nakamura (中村洋太郎), who previously spent roughly two decades working across textiles, logistics and circular-material businesses, including time at Toyoshima and JEPLAN.

Its main business is OCEAN THREAD®(オーシャンスレッド), a material system that takes plastic collected from Japanese coastlines — particularly PET bottles — and puts it back into circulation as recycled resin, yarn, fabric and finished products.

There is an important detail here that gets lost if OCEAN THREAD is described simply as “clothing made from ocean plastic.”

Ocean Class says its material currently uses around 10% marine-plastic-derived feedstock, with the remaining roughly 90% coming from domestically recovered PET bottles and other recycled industrial material. The mixture is designed to deal with the deterioration that plastics suffer after exposure to seawater, salt and ultraviolet light while keeping the final material 100% recycled.

That makes the business closer to a materials and supply-chain company than a conventional sustainability merchandise brand.

ANA has already put the material into a commercial product

One of the more concrete pieces of validation comes from ANA.

The airline launched a flight tag using OCEAN THREAD recycled yarn in January 2026. Part of the source material came from bottles collected by ANA employees on Ishigaki Island(石垣島)and bottles collected from arriving aircraft at Ishigaki Airport.

According to Ocean Class's FUNDINNO materials, a combined 1,000 ANA flight tags sold out in around two weeks across the initial and additional production runs, with another production run subsequently prepared.

Ocean Class is also working toward applications outside apparel. Its materials have been considered for interior use in Toyota Marine's PONAM-35SV cruiser, while collection and recycling initiatives have involved organisations including Tsushima City(対馬市), Goldwin and Koikeya.

What the new capital is for

Ocean Class says the proceeds are intended to help move OCEAN THREAD from individual projects toward a larger materials business, including manufacturing, inventory, product development, sales, marketing and additional personnel.

The company is targeting applications across apparel, uniforms, hospitality, interiors and mobility rather than relying solely on consumer products such as T-shirts and towels. It has also said that expanding its collection network and licensing revenue will be part of its longer-term strategy.

Those plans are still plans: Ocean Class reported only around ¥1 million in sales in its previous period, while its ¥33 million figure for the current period is a company forecast rather than achieved revenue.

That distinction matters given how quickly the crowdfunding campaign itself has filled.

The investment is open — but not internationally

The round is being conducted through FUNDINNO(ファンディーノ) as an equity crowdfunding offering of ordinary shares. The disclosed price is ¥10,000 per share, with investment courses beginning at ¥100,000.

There is also an important limitation for readers outside Japan: FUNDINNO does not accept investors who live overseas. Foreign nationals can register only under specific conditions, including residence in Japan and permanent-resident or special-permanent-resident status.

So although Ocean Class remains a verified Open investment opportunity, it should not be described as globally accessible.
